A Note from Neil

Joel Makower, Chairman & Co-Founder of the GreenBiz Group said it clearly:

“The problem? "Net zero," for all of its compelling simplicity, turns out to be anything but. Indeed, it is fraught with problems, and companies — the leaders and the wannabes alike — are finding themselves encountering a crescendo of criticism.”

The article notes that only 20% of the world’s biggest 2,000 companies in the world have created net-zero commitments, and company leadership is “taking the heat.” Net zero commitments, whether they’re five, ten or fifteen years out, are not enough. To create concrete and tangible sustainability progress within business, companies must think more critically about setting interim targets, using net zero only as the starting point to guide concrete steps toward a more sustainable future.

At OnePointFive, our values of transparency and authenticity and our commitment to progress on climate mean we have been strategically supporting companies in their quest to develop tangible projects and progress making their operations more sustainable.

On July 15th, OnePointFive will be having our first birthday celebration, and I could not be more proud of the movement we have already been pushing forward to curb the worst impacts of climate change. Our commitment to keep planetary warming under OnePointFive degrees Celcius means helping companies start today on their path toward sustainability, taking actionable steps forward to co-design a more sustainable future for their company and our planet.

Thank you for joining us on this journey.

Updates at OPF

We are currently working on a handful of projects, showcasing examples of how we can using our modular expert teams, and expert network, to deliver climate-related projects alongside you, including:

  • Accelerating the market entry and customer acquisition for a climate intelligence platform in the U.S. by connecting with industry leads and translating their needs to product requirements

  • Providing environmental validations, standards alignment and modelling support for a carbon footprinting software with customers within transportation & logistics, last-mile delivery, and the airline industry

  • Updating the life-cycle analysis model for the product packaging of a e-commerce consumer products company to measure and report on their sustainability progress

  • Interviewing and consolidating customer insights from climate investors using a software tool to evaluate the climate emissions reduction potential of climate tech investments

  • Developing innovation lab and design-thinking materials for an US environmental advocacy agency to drive intrapreneurship within the organization

  • Researching the US climate policy landscape and collecting expert insights to anticipate regulations on industries and businesses around climate physical risk disclosures

Stay tuned each month for updates on our work!

OPF Team Learning

One of the benefits of having a team that works remotely is we get to integrate learnings from all over the world. At OnePointFive we also encourage our team members to explore and take on opportunities that will accelerate their learning.

In the middle of June our Sustainability Associate, Sofie Brøgger, participated in a conference on Regenerative Visions in Copenhagen, where she explored how to move beyond sustainability and towards regeneration.

Sofie reflected: "Regeneration has a completely different starting point - we start by asking, what can we learn from nature? How can we, as part of nature, contribute to regeneration of culture and of nature - in our personal life and in the companies, organisations and communities that we are part of?”

Learning Spotlight

Our team has been putting together a ‘OPF learning center’ / knowledge base to centralize insights from our client work and communication with industry experts, as well as to harness the knowledge amongst our team. Some key pieces that came up last month were:

GreenBiz Article: The Net Zero Backlash Has Arrived

Ted Talk: Christiana Figueres on Stubborn Optimism

Podcast: Intro to Carbon Pricing

Meet Lydia Lee

Lydia is joining us as a Summer Marketing Associate at OnePointFive, where she will be conducting research to support marketing and communications writing, social media design, and content creation across sustainability expert topic areas.
